My relationship with pottery began in 2022 during covid lockdown. I was desperate for a hobby that would bring joy. I enrolled at my local TAFE and completed two 8 week intensive courses to learn the fundamental principles and skills of ceramics, clay, glazing and the firing process. In 2023 I decided to take a break from my Nursing degree and applied to work as a Pottery Instructor at a children’s summer camp in Canada! At the time I may have embellished my -not so- extensive pottery experience just a little in order to get the job. Hey, act confident and no one will question you, right? I bought a second hand wheel off facebook market place and had 6 weeks to learn. At the camp I assisted in the day to day running of the pottery studio, instructing multiple classes and workshops each day and operating 3 large kilns. What was supposed to be one summer uni break turned into 3 of the best summers I've ever had.Now I’ve moved back home to Western Australia, living in Perth and eager to see where my silly little covid hobby will take me next. Hope to see you in class!Love Em x

While BYO alcoholic beverages are permitted all consumption of liquor must be in line with legislation. Pottemy staff have the right to manage, regulate and enforce safe drinking behaviour in line with the Liqour Control Act 1988. Disrespect of any kind toward staff and other patrons will not be tolerated.
Please note: permitted BYO includes wine, beer, cider, pre-mixed ready to drink beverages only NO BOTTLED OR FREE POURED SPIRITS
are there any age restrictions?
due to consumption of alcohol during classes, under 18 year olds must attend with a parent or legal guardian, photo ID will be required for proof of age and guardianship
what should I wear?
Pottery has a reputation for being messy but this class focuses on hand building which is must cleaner! We do provide aprons to wear during the class but don't worry clay does not stain and is easily washed off clothes. So wear that cute outfit and get that cute pic!
tips: flowy long sleeves can get in the way and restrictive clothing can become uncomfortable. unless raining these classes are hosted outdoors so be mindful of the weather in cooler months. Trimmed nails make working with clay easier but definitely not a necessity.
when do I get my piece back?
The creation of ceramic pieces is a lengthy process! After the class your work will take 1 week to dry completely. After it has gone through its first bisque firing, we will glaze your piece for you (your choice of glaze from our selection of three gorgeous colours or natural white). Finally its time for the final glaze firing! The whole process takes around 5 to 6 weeks in total.
Stomp Coffee is our collection point for finished pieces. You will be contacted when your work is ready with specific pickup instructions.
my piece didn’t turn out how I wanted it to, what can I do?
We do absolutely everything in our power to ensure you end up with a gorgeous, functional masterpiece at the end of the process. From one on one guidance during the class to taking the utmost care when handling and transporting your work. While we treat every piece like we would our own, the nature of clay is very fragile as it changes form throughout the drying, firing and glazing process. Pottemy is not liable for any broken or damaged work.Glazing and firing can be temperamental based on many, factors. While it is uncommon, a piece may not survive the firing process. In this case the $20 firing fee included in your ticket will be refunded to you.We thank you for your understanding.
